State Calendar

February 2-3, 2017: Show off your honey and other products of your hives at the NJBA 2017 Annual Honey Show! Judging will be on February 2 & 3, 2017 at the State House in Trenton. You need to get your entries to a drop-off volunteer no later than January 29th. Entries will be delivered to Trenton by noon on Wednesday, February 1. If you’d like to volunteer to be a drop-off point for entries, transport entries, volunteer at the judging or running the “Best Tasting Honey in NJ” contest in the State House contact Landi Simone, landi.s@verizon.net. February 11-12, 2017
: Saturday and Sunday at the Ramada Bordentown, 1083 Route 206 North, Bordentown. Speakers will include Dr. James E. Tew (retired professor of entomology at Ohio State University, long-time Bee Culture columnist and current state apiary specialist for the Alabama Cooperative Extension program), Jeremy Bemis (Bemis Honey Bee Farm, Little Rock, Arkansas), Samuel Ramsey (vanEngelsdorp Lab PhD student University of Maryland). Dr. Gary Shilling, keynote speaker at the Saturday night banquet, of A. Gary Shilling & Co. Dr. Shilling has had a long career on Wall Street, ranked as a number one economist, served as an economic advisor to presidents and is a beekeeper, currently serving on the board of Project Apis M. Catering by Mastoris. Entertainment by Arnie Abrams. We’ll also have our annual auction of honey show winners. Blocks of 40 rooms each have been reserved at a rate of $60 (before taxes) at the Ramada if booked before January 13, 2017 and at a rate of $84 at the Comfort Inn, 1009 US Highway 206, Bordentown if booked before January 25, 2017. September 30, 2017: Saturday at Sparta High School, 70 West Mountain Road, Sparta Township 07871. The NJBA Annual Fall meeting hosted by the Sussex County Beekeepers Association will feature Jerry Hayes, author of American Bee Journal’s “Classroom”, former head of Florida’s Apiary Inspection Station and currently Honey Bee Health Lead BioDirect Business Unit, Monsanto will be a featured speaker. Also featured will be Randy Oliver, Commercial Beekeeper, Author & Researcher. Registration and continental breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m., with the program starting at 8:30 a.m. If you pre-register by Monday, September 25th, the cost is $35. After that date, late registration is $45 starting Tuesday, September 26th and including walk-ins. Click here for online registration, which is preferred. January 27, 2017: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Hunterdon Central Regional High School Cafeteria – Upper School Room 173. “FLIR Thermal Imaging Cameras and Simple Endoscope Cameras for Use in Beekeeping”. Bob Kloss and Kevin Inglin will have their devices and explain how they work and what they can be used for. They will also have the club’s Arnia Hive Monitoring System on hand and will walk members through the components and preview the ways the system will be used to monitor hive conditions. Honey from a variety of sources will be at every meeting this year for tasting. Honey from France will be at this meeting. There will be lively Q&A and guidance for January beekeeping will be provided. For additional details, click here.
