Information about Honey:

Need Assistance with NJ State Services or NJBA:

  • A: Yes. There’s a link on our Education page to the NJ Regulations, and we also offer a very nice summary of the Regulation Highlights here: LINK

  • A: Honey bees need water to cool their hive and to drink. By NJ law, if you keep bees, you are required to provide a water source on your property for your bees. Although your bees may still learn where your neighbor’s pool or pond is, providing an adequate water source nearby improves the chances they will drink your water and not your neighbor’s, especially if you set up your water source in winter before your bees start flying.

  • A: If you have spoken with your neighbor about your concern, and are at an impasse, you can opt to submit a special form to officially report your concern to the state apiarist at the NJ Dept on Ag. Here is the link to that form: Concern Form.

  • A: The New Jersey Beekeepers Association (NJBA) collaborates with the NJ Department of Agriculture, the NJ League of Municipalities, and the New Jersey Farm Bureau (NJFB). Find out who your legislators are by going to the NJ Farm Bureau website, under Advocacy & Policy > Legislative Information > NJ State Legislative Homepage. There are two committees in Trenton that beekeepers should be aware of: the NJ Assembly’s “Ag Committee” (Assembly Commerce, Economic Development and Agriculture Committee) and the NJ Senate’s “Environmental Committee” (Senate Environment and Energy Committee).
